Our Approach Centres Fees

NSEV Celebrating Chinese New Year.

This week we begin our Chinese New Year celebrations.

Chinese New Year 2015

The beginning of the week was full of traditional activities including making New Year’s signs, cleaning around the Villa's and cooking dumplings for our traditional feast on Thursday. The children have already begun listening to Chinese New Year songs, enjoying the Chinese zodiac story and creating lanterns to decorate the centre.

The children will be dressing in red (the symbol of good luck) for the day.  We will be celebrating with a traditional feast, songs, stories and fireworks (party poppers, to scare away bad spirits). The children will also be performing a dragon and lion dance with props they have created themselves. Keep watch on Educa for a video of the performance.

The children will also receive a lucky red envelope with a golden coin (chocolate) inside. The giving of a red envelope to children is a well observed custom during Chinese New Year and hopes to bring plenty of happiness and blessings to the receiver. Please take these home to open as unlike in Western culture it is impolite to open the envelope in front of the person who gave it to you.

We look forward to the celebrations!
